Strength TogetHER 8- Session 6

Strength TogetHER is a virtual program facilitated by 'LOKOPAKAR', a youth organization that has achieved to provide a space and platform for individuals (especially girls and young women) to share their stories, experiences and their issues and find solutions within themselves.

On December 4th,2021 , the 6th session of Cohort 8 was conducted on the topic “Overthinking ” with the active participation of 12 girls which took place via zoom at 12pm. Our moderator was Rosy Karna. She completed her undergraduate and master's in biology at Stanford University, California, USA. She is currently pursuing her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at the PGSP Stanford Psy.D. Consortium Program. As a part of the clinical training, she is currently doing her practicum at the community-based mental health clinic, Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC).

 

Our session started with the introduction of the moderator and topic. Then our speakers kept forward many stories and instances relating to the topic.

 

1. Our first speaker told us about her overthinking habit. She was overthinking since the last few days because of her less marks in exams. She was worried about taking her Entrance exam too.

 

2. Our second speaker told us her story .She lost her “mama “ in an accident and because of that she was thinking if she could have spend more time with him. She told us how she controlled her emotions later she started feeling heavy which affects her physical as well as mental health 

 

 

3. Our third speaker kept forwarding the story of herself. She explained when she started overthinking she shared her feelings to a few people. They replied that it’s normal to feel but she was feeling heavy. She started overthinking about everything due to which she tried to change her personality, she felt like she wasn’t enough to do anything, so many questions used to pile up in her . She started to feel the things we are feeling. she started to doubt herself.

 

4. Our fourth  speaker shares that she knows everything is going with the flow but she is scared of the judgmental people around her . She think’s hundred times before postings her story on Instagram. She overthink about little things that happened which takes to breakdown moment 

 

5.Our last speaker told us that  overthinking is like her daily routine. Recently, she felt like her best friend was changing and she felt so bad about that fact. When she asked her best friend why she is changing there was nothing like that she was reacting the same . She told us that because of her overthinking she felt like that .She told us that she overthinks about little things .

 

We also got many wise & insightful words from our moderator, which are as follows:

 

1.  She told us we should distract ourselves when we feel like we  are overthinking things like writing ,reading, watching movies.

2. She made us aware about how overthinking affects our mental as well as physical health 

3. She also told us we should stop blaming ourselves for every little thing . 

4. She told us to not feel guilty about taking out time for ourselves and doing things for oneself.

5.She told us we should try to do new things which make us happy.

6.We should give our best on everything.

 

In this process of knowing each other, sharing each other’s stories, the session provided a kind of homely warmth. We ended our session with our group selfishly.
